Crushing the Competition: Pokémon That Defy Weaknesses

Putting together a strong Pokémon team isn’t always easy. You want a team with different types of Pokémon to defend against lots of enemies and also to deal powerful attacks. Sometimes, when a Pokémon belongs to more than one type, it can be weak against more types of attacks.

But don’t worry! There are some types of Pokémon that have very few weaknesses. These types include Electric, Normal, Ghost/Dark, Poison/Dark, Water/Ground, Bug/Steel, Water/Electric, and a newer type called Normal/Ghost. Some Pokémon even have special abilities that protect them from type weaknesses. Having these Pokémon on your team can really help you as a Trainer.

Pikachu!

Pikachu is super famous among Pokémon fans. It’s not the strongest, but it’s one of the most famous Electric Pokémon. Electric Pokémon, like Pikachu, only have one weakness, and that’s Ground-type moves.

Pikachu’s stats are like this:

• HP: 35
• Attack: 55
• Defense: 40
• Special Attack: 50
• Special Defense: 50
• Speed: 90

Ground moves are the only ones that really hurt Electric Pokémon, but Electric moves are great against Flying and Water Pokémon. So, having a pure Electric Pokémon like Pikachu on your team can be a big help in battles. Even Pikachu’s special Gigantamax form is still just Electric type.

Bellibolt!

Bellibolt and Pawmi are new Electric-type Pokémon. They’re pretty cool because they only have one weakness, which is Ground-type moves.

Bellibolt is a prized Pokémon of Levincia Gym Leader Iono in the Scarlet & Violet games.

Here are its stats:

• HP: 109
• Attack: 64
• Defense: 91
• Special Attack: 103
• Special Defense: 83
• Speed: 45

Bellibolt has a special ability called Electromorphosis that can make it a strong attacker if it survives the first hit in a battle.

In these games, there’s something called the Terastal phenomenon. It can help Pokémon both in offense and defense. For Bellibolt, if it becomes a Flying Tera type, it won’t have to worry about its usual Ground weakness, but it might have some weaknesses to Flying-type moves instead. So, it’s all about strategy!

Snorlax!

Snorlax is a Pokémon that’s super tough to beat. It can hit really hard one turn and then snooze off any damage it takes in the next turn. In the first generation of Pokémon, Snorlax was one of the strongest, and it gave many Trainers a hard time when they tried to catch it.

Here are Snorlax’s stats:

• HP: 160
• Attack: 110
• Defense: 65
• Special Attack: 65
• Special Defense: 110
• Speed: 30

What’s really cool about Snorlax is that it only has one weakness. It’s only weak to Fighting-type moves. Plus, Snorlax has super high HP and Special Defense, which makes it really tough to defeat in battles.

Sableye!

Sableye is unique because it’s one of only two Pokémon that’s both Ghost and Dark types. It’s a bit of a loner and loves munching on gems, but it’s also known for being scary because it’s said to steal souls.

In battles, Sableye is pretty tough because it doesn’t have many weaknesses.

Here are its stats:

• HP: 50
• Attack: 75
• Defense: 75
• Special Attack: 65
• Special Defense: 65
• Speed: 50

So, you can see that Sableye is a strong Pokémon that’s not easily defeated! Its only weakness is against Fairy-type moves.

Sableye has just one weakness, and that’s to Fairy-type Pokémon. When it first appeared in the games, some Trainers decided not to include it on their teams because it couldn’t evolve. Later on, Sableye got a Mega Evolution, which made it even stronger. But it’s important to know that Mega Evolution isn’t available in the newer Pokémon games.

Cynthia!

She’s a powerful Trainer. She uses Spiritomb, which is another Ghost/Dark-type Pokémon. Spiritomb is known as the Forbidden Pokémon because it’s made up of not just one spirit, but 108 spirits. It was trapped inside the Odd Keystone 500 years ago.

Here are Spiritomb’s stats:

• HP: 50
• Attack: 92
• Defense: 108
• Special Attack: 92
• Special Defense: 108
• Speed: 35

Like Sableye, Spiritomb is only weak to Fairy-type Pokémon. But unlike Sableye, Spiritomb doesn’t have any way to evolve or Mega Evolve. Some players might prefer Sableye because it can Mega Evolve, but strong Trainers like Cynthia have shown that Spiritomb can still be a powerful choice.

Maushold!

Maushold is not only super cute, but it’s also a really interesting Pokémon. It’s like a whole family of mice working together as one team. People love using Maushold in competitive battles for Generation IX because it’s pretty good. Maushold has a mix of stats, which means it can be helpful as a support, defense, or offensive Pokémon.

Here are Maushold’s stats:

• HP: 74
• Attack: 75
• Defense: 70
• Special Attack: 65
• Special Defense: 75
• Speed: 111

What’s cool is that Maushold is a pure Normal type, so it only has to worry about Fighting-type moves being super effective against it. That makes Maushold a strong choice in battles, and it definitely deserves to be considered with other top Pokémon in the franchise.

Skuntank!

Skuntank is a unique Pokémon because it’s both Poison and Dark types, and there are only seven Pokémon like that. Among them, Skuntank and its earlier form, Stunky, are pretty famous. Skuntank is known for being a skunk Pokémon, and it takes a brave Trainer to raise one because it can spray a really stinky fluid that can reach up to 160 feet!

Here are Skuntank’s stats:

• Attack: 93
• Defense: 67
• Special Attack: 71
• Special Defense: 61
• Speed: 84

Skuntank has an ability called Stench, which can make an opponent’s Pokémon flinch. Some Trainers think it’s worth the risk because Skuntank is only weak to Ground-types. And the good thing is, the smell it sprays can change depending on what it eats.

Swampert!

Swampert is a really cool Pokémon because it’s a mix of Water and Ground types, and there are ten Pokémon like that. But Swampert is the most popular because it’s fully evolved and super strong. This Pokémon is awesome; it can lift big rocks and swim super fast, like it’s water skiing. And guess what? Swampert is the final form of a starter Pokémon, so it’s easy to get if you choose it at the beginning of your adventure.

Here are Swampert’s stats:

• HP: 100
• Attack: 110
• Defense: 90
• Special Attack: 85
• Special Defense: 90
• Speed: 60

Even when Swampert Mega Evolves, its types don’t change. That means it’s only weak against Grass types. So, Swampert is a fantastic choice in the third generation games or their remakes. It’s a real powerhouse!

Seismitoad

If you can’t get your hands on Swampert, there are other Water/Ground-type Pokémon to consider. One good option is the Tympole line, which eventually evolves into the powerful Seismitoad when it reaches level 36. Seismitoad isn’t limited to just Water and Ground moves; it has a cool ability called Poison Touch that can poison an opponent even without using Poison-type attacks.

• HP: 105
• Attack: 95
• Defense: 75
• Special Attack: 85
• Special Defense: 75
• Speed: 74

Just like Swampert, Seismitoad’s only weakness is Grass-type moves. It also has high HP, Attack, and Special Attack stats, which are similar to Swampert’s strengths. Unfortunately, Seismitoad can’t Mega Evolve like Swampert can, but it’s still a strong choice for Trainers without access to Swampert.

Scizor!

Scizor is one of only six Pokémon that are Bug/Steel types. Even when it Mega Evolves, it keeps these types. Scizor and Mega Scizor are considered better than their first form, Scyther, and its other evolution, Kleavor. Why? Because they only have one weakness, which is Fire.

Here are Scizor’s stats:

• HP: 70
• Attack: 130
• Defense: 100
• Special Attack: 55
• Special Defense: 80
• Speed: 65

Scizor has a super tough body made of steel, and it uses its wings to stay cool and prevent itself from getting too hot or melting. Even its muscles are made of metal! So, as long as a Trainer isn’t up against a Fire-type Pokémon, Scizor is a fantastic choice. It’s really strong!

Overqwil!

One of the coolest things in recent Pokémon games is the regional variants. They take classic Pokémon and give them a fresh look and new types. One Pokémon that got this treatment is Qwilfish from the second generation.

Here are Overqwil’s stats:

• HP: 85
• Attack: 115
• Defense: 95
• Special Attack: 65
• Special Defense: 65
• Speed: 85

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, there’s a version of Qwilfish called Hisuian Qwilfish. It still has the Poison type, but now it’s also part Dark type. This means it’s only weak to Ground-type moves. But the good stuff doesn’t stop there. Qwilfish finally gets an evolution, and it’s called Overqwil. It keeps the same types as Hisuian Qwilfish. It’s pretty awesome!

Alolan Muk!

When Muk is in the Alola region, it goes through some pretty cool changes. Its body turns all rainbow-like, kind of like an oil slick, because of all the different poisons in its body. Plus, it grows sharp claws and teeth that are like crystallized poison.

Here are Alolan Muk’s stats:

• HP: 105
• Attack: 105
• Defense: 75
• Special Attack: 65
• Special Defense: 100
• Speed: 50

But the most important thing is that Alolan Muk changes from being just a Poison type to a Poison/Dark type Pokémon. This means it’s only weak to Ground types, and unlike the regular Muk from Kanto, the Alolan version can’t be hurt by Psychic moves. Muk was already strong in Kanto, but the Alolan version is even more powerful because it has fewer weaknesses. It’s a tough one!

Wash Rotom!

It’s a special form of Rotom when it decides to live inside a washing machine. This turns Rotom into a Water/Electric-type Pokémon. There are other Water/Electric types like Chinchou and Lanturn, but unlike Rotom, they’re not immune to Ground-type moves.

Here are Wash Rotom’s stats:

• HP: 50
• Attack: 65
• Defense: 107
• Special Attack: 105
• Special Defense: 107
• Speed: 86

Rotom is pretty cool because it can’t be hurt by Ground-type moves thanks to its ability called Levitate, which lets it float in the air. So, Wash Rotom is only weak to Grass-type moves. Many competitive players consider Wash Rotom the most useful version of Rotom, so it’s definitely a great choice for competitive battles.

Genesect!

Genesect is a special Mythical Pokémon that first appeared in the fifth generation of games. It was once an ancient Pokémon brought back to life by Team Plasma, and they turned it into a mechanized Pokémon to gain more power. Because of all these changes, Genesect is a Bug/Steel-type Pokémon, just like Scizor.

Here are Genesect’s stats:

• HP: 71
• Attack: 120
• Defense: 95
• Special Attack: 120
• Special Defense: 95
• Speed: 99

The only thing that can really hurt Genesect is Fire-type moves. They do a lot of damage because both Bug and Steel types are weak against Fire. Genesect has a cool move called Techno Blast, and what’s neat is that this move can change its type depending on a special Drive that’s installed into Genesect. This can be super handy in battles if you know what type of Pokémon you’re up against. Genesect is quite the powerhouse!

Trash Cloak Wormadam!

Wormadam is a Bug-type Pokémon, but what’s cool is that it gets a second type depending on the kind of cloak it wears. When it has its Trash Cloak on, it becomes a Bug/Steel type, and this type combination stays the same.

Here are Trash Cloak Wormadam’s stats:

• HP: 60
• Attack: 69
• Defense: 95
• Special Attack: 69
• Special Defense: 95
• Speed: 36

In this form, Trash Cloak Wormadam only has one weakness, and that’s to Fire-type moves. This makes Trash Cloak Wormadam better than its other forms, like Sandy Cloak, which has four weaknesses, or Plant Cloak, which has six weaknesses. So, if you’re comparing it to Burmy’s other final evolution, Mothim, Trash Cloak Wormadam is definitely more appealing because it has fewer weaknesses.

Dudunsparce!

Dudunsparce is a new evolution for the Gen II Pokémon Dunsparce, and it came in Generation IX. When it comes to its design, it’s not the most exciting or memorable, but it did get a boost in its base stats, making it better for battles.

Here are Dudunsparce’s stats:

• HP: 125
• Attack: 100
• Defense: 80
• Special Attack: 85
• Special Defense: 75
• Speed: 55

Dudunsparce is a Normal type Pokémon, which means it only has one weakness, and that’s against Fighting-type moves. While it might not be the toughest Pokémon around, its special move, Hyper Drill, can deal some damage, especially because of its high Attack stat. You might not see Dudunsparce in competitive battles often, but it still has its place in the world of Pokémon.

Hisuian Zoroark!

It’s one of the latest Pokémon with a unique typing, Normal/Ghost. Normally, Normal and Ghost types are complete opposites. Ghost moves don’t work on Normal Pokémon, and the other way around. But there are two cool Pokémon with this new typing, Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark.

Here are Hisuian Zoroark’s stats:

• HP: 55
• Attack: 100
• Defense: 60
• Special Attack: 125
• Special Defense: 60
• Speed: 110

Because of their Normal/Ghost typing, Fighting-type moves don’t affect them at all. And Ghost-type moves, which usually don’t do anything to Normal Pokémon, now work great against Ghost Pokémon. But here’s the catch: Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark are only weak to Dark-type moves, which comes from their Ghost typing. So, they’re quite unique and interesting!

Eelektross!

It’s pretty special because it’s one of the very few Pokémon that have absolutely no weaknesses. Not even Mythical or Legendary Pokémon can claim this. Normally, Electric Pokémon are weak to Ground moves, but Eelektross is different. It has a special ability called Levitate, which means Ground moves can’t hurt it.

Here are Eelektross’s stats:

• HP: 85
• Attack: 115
• Defense: 80
• Special Attack: 105
• Special Defense: 80
• Speed: 50

Eelektross might look a bit scary, but for any Trainer who wants a Pokémon without any type weaknesses, it’s a perfect addition to the team. Plus, it’s got strong physical and Special Attack stats, so it can deliver some powerful moves in battles.

Mismagius!

In the Generation IX games, there’s something called the Terastal phenomenon. While many see it as a way to boost offense in battles, it can also be used defensively to protect certain types of Pokémon. If a Pokémon has the Levitate Ability, you can simply give it the Electric Tera type, and that means it won’t have any type weaknesses.

Here are Mismagius’s stats:

• HP: 60
• Attack: 60
• Defense: 60
• Special Attack: 105
• Special Defense: 105
• Speed: 105

In the Scarlet & Violet games, the Gym Leader Iono, who leads the Levincia Gym, uses this Terastallization strategy with her ace, Mismagius. It makes Mismagius a tricky opponent for players to beat because it has no type weaknesses. And this strategy can work for other Pokémon with Levitate, like Hydreigon, Haunter, and Cryogonal, too. It’s a clever way to battle!

Electric Tera Orthworm!

Just like using the Electric Tera type for Levitate Pokémon, you can do something similar with Orthworm. Orthworm has this cool ability called Earth Eater. Normally, it’s weak to Ground-type moves, but with Earth Eater, those moves don’t hurt it; instead, they actually heal it!

Here are Orthworm’s stats:

• HP: 70
• Attack: 85
• Defense: 145
• Special Attack: 60
• Special Defense: 55
• Speed: 65

Orthworm is a Steel type, and without the Electric Earth Eater strategy, Ground-type moves can really hurt it. So, when you’re up against a Ground-type Pokémon, switching to this strategy could be a brilliant move. However, it’s important to note that Orthworm’s Speed, Special Defense, and HP stats aren’t that great, so it might need some stat boosts to stand up to tough opponents.
